The Best of the Johnny Cash TV Show Specifications

During the late 1960s and early '70s, Johnny Cash introduced country fans and viewers of his weekly variety show to hand-picked artists-- some contemporary country's best—whom they may not have otherwise had exposure to. This "best of" anthology is a little more random than its title suggests, omitting the duet with Bob Dylan from the program's debut (perhaps the best remembered highlight from the series) in favor of a duet with the then-emerging Joni Mitchell on "Girl From the North Country," and including a hokey arrangement of "I've Been Everywhere" with Lynn Anderson. Yet Ray Charles' soulful recasting of "Ring of Fire" is a revelation, and a roster ranging from Eric Clapton's Derek and the Dominoes to Roy Orbison to George Jones and (separately) Tammy Wynette made for some memorable television. --Don McLeese

When most citizen think of a beach it is instinctively connected with the sea. However, this need not inevitably be so. There are also inland beaches on lakes and rivers. These beaches are commonly referred to as inland beaches. Somewhere to stay can be a problem with even some of the best inland beaches.

Many of these inland beaches are just not customary enough to make a hotel commercially viable, but some of them have bungalow rentals as an alternative. These cottages, or cabins sometimes, can be difficult to find if you do not book early enough. They are frequently unblemished homes, fully qualified with all the household amenities you have grown accustomed to: a fully furnished living room, manifold bedrooms, bathrooms, and a contemporary kitchen.

Inland beach bungalow rentals are popular because they are commonly settled exactly on the water's edge. This makes the patch of beach right before your bungalow your incommunicable beach. You can sleep on it at night if it's hot, lie there all day or set up a few fishing lines.

In the evenings, you can hitch up with neighbours to have a party or keep yourself to yourself. For this reason, it is a good idea to check photos of the bungalow before you make a reservation.

If an inland beach bungalow rental sounds just up your street, there are thousands to select from in the United States and Canada. The Great Lakes are a particularly fine place to go. There are breathtaking locations in the Finger Lakes region of New York state and along Lake Michigan and Lake Huron.

You will not be disappointed about going on holiday to an inland beach bungalow rental property. There are so many variations that there is literally something for every pocket and every house size. Singles are not so well catered for, but if you want a quiet holiday alone. Maybe to study, then this might fitting be for you too.

You can fly into some of these resorts by seaplane, but it is more probable that you will take your own car or a rental car, if you want to get out and do some exploring further afield. Personally, I would rather hire a boat.

Led Zeppelin - Moby Dick Copyright - 1969 Atlantic Records "Moby Dick" is an instrumental tune and drum solo by English rock band Led Zeppelin, featured on their 1969 album Led Zeppelin II. Overview The title of the tune has no relation to the book of the same name by Herman Melville. According to Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham's wife, Pat, the tune is named "Moby Dick" because his son, Jason, asked him to play "the long song". When John asked why, the boy replied, "It's big like Moby." The tune emerged after Jimmy Page would often catch Bonham jamming in the studio, recorded parts of it, and then pieced it all together. Only guitarist Jimmy Page and bassist John Paul Jones play the tune's blues-based riff with Bonham's drums—as a power trio—at the very beginning and the very end of the tune, leaving the remainder open for Bonham alone. Singer Robert Plant did not play at all, and in concert would simply introduce Bonham to the audience before the tune started. Outtakes from the Led Zeppelin II sessions reveal that the drum solo recorded was edited down from a much longer version. The tune features strong influences from drummers Joe Morello and Ginger Baker and the tracks "Castilian Drums" (the live version from At Carnegie Hall in particular) and "Toad" (especially Wheels Of Fire version) respectively, utilizing bare hand drumming, triplets between hand and foot, bass drum double strokes among other techniques. Richard Gere is pretty convincing as a severe manic-depressive whose episodes of euphoria sometimes find him dancing on a two-by-four far above the street or climbing onstage during a symphony performance to "conduct" the orchestra. When the pendulum swings the other way, he is practically catatonic. As a character study, this film by Mike Figgis (Leaving Las Vegas) has its truly compelling moments, but Mr. Jones isn't just a character study. Inexplicably, Figgis ushers in a preposterous romance between this poor fellow and his psychiatrist (Lena Olin), a relationship that is supposed to raise interesting ethical and dramatic issues. All it does is make one wonder what the devil the doctor is thinking of, and why Figgis felt it necessary to go down this lose-lose path. With Delroy Lindo in a nice part as a sympathetic construction worker who tries to help Gere's character. --Tom Keogh

Wattstax (30th Anniversary Special Edition) Specifications

They called Wattstax the "black Woodstock," but there are many differences between that seminal hippie event and the 1972 concert documented in this 30th-anniversary special-edition reissue. Woodstock was all about peace, love, and music. Wattstax, held three years later in Los Angeles, had those elements as well; but as this 103-minute film reminds us, it was a more socio-politically charged event, with its emphasis on black pride and the simple opportunity for African Americans to assert that, in opening speaker Jesse Jackson's words, "I am somebody." There's also a good deal less music in this film than in the Woodstock movie. As the title suggests, a host of great Stax Records artists (including Rufus and Carla Thomas, the Bar-Kays, the Staple Singers, Albert King, and show closer Isaac Hayes) performed, but much of Wattstax doesn't even take place inside the L.A. Coliseum, where the concert was held, but rather in the churches and shops and on the streets of Watts itself (music fans would be better off checking out the Wattstax double CD). Wattstax, in fact, is much less a music movie than a chronicle of black life seven years after the Watts race riots, as well as what comedian Richard Pryor (who delivers several hilarious but scathing bits) calls "a soulful expression of the black experience." --Sam Graham

This video companion to the Canadian singer-songwriter's triumphant live album confirms in sight what that recording advanced in sound--Sarah McLachlan and her fine, flexible stage band have evolved into a superb live performing unit, breathing added fire and nuance into McLachlan songs that were already stunning in their original studio versions. Always a strong, charismatic singer, McLachlan now conjures a rare balance of delicacy and power, measured here in performances of signature songs that add a new, more muscular edge matching her band's rock firepower. Thus, "Possession" expands beyond its already sensual promise to touch on truly erotic abandon, while "Building a Mystery" focuses its portrait of a narcissistic poseur with a harder edge and a newly amended, R-rated lyric that's entirely appropriate.

Shot on McLachlan's 1998 headlining tour, the concert captures her in a more theatrical and frankly glamorous (if slightly funky) vein than her fabled Lilith Fair shows: in her floor-length blue gown, sparkling blue mascara, and bare feet, she evokes a more demure, Gen-X cousin to Cabaret's Sally Bowles. With 23 featured songs, Mirrorball on video adds 9 tracks not heard on the CD. The audio mixing is generally excellent, especially on the DVD version, which provides some hall ambience but retains a front-array, proscenium placement to instruments. Shot on film, rather than videotape, the concert preserves the stunning, subtle lighting effects of McLachlan's touring production, albeit at slight visual sacrifice in lower-light segments in which the resolution is grainier. --Sam Sutherland
